Bible Facts

I have heard it said that there is no hell because it is not in the Bible. I beg to differ. I don’t know what Bible they are using, maybe it’s one of these newer translations printed at a seventh grade reading level because they don’t believe peoples brains don’t need to be taxed with too much scriptural knowledge. Or, maybe they think people growing up in today’s educational system aren’t capable of reading comprehension above the seventh grade. In any case, I have copied the following out of one of the Bibles that I have that was printed many years ago. From what I’ve seen of the latest editions, even of that particular version, there’s a lot being left out of the Bibles today that help people understand what their reading when they open a Bible. This way also gives some of these preachers, or rather, some of the people that stand in the position of a preacher, too much leeway to preach a doctrine that may be, not completely Christian. What I’ve copied out of my Bible indicates that, if it’s no longer in the Bibles of today, people are being short changed in their spiritual education. I think, maybe everyone should start complaining about it to the writers and publishers of Bibles, to put this kind of information back into the Bibles they print without charging an arm and a leg for them. After all, they’re just putting back in what was taken out. I hope this helps someone that has been wrestling with this problem.

HELL. This term has two specific meanings in the Bible. (1). The hereafter, the grave, the place of the dead. In this case the Hebrew word Sheol is variously rendered: Hell (Ps. 16:10), the grave (Gen. 37:35), the pit (Job 17:16). It was an unseen country, beneath the earth (Amos 9:2), a gloomy place (Ps. 6:5), visited by God (Ps. 139:8), and from which one might be returned (Heb. 11:19). (2). It was also the place of eternal punishment, to which the wicked were sent (Ps. 9:17), to suffer tortures (Ps. 11:6), in everlasting darkness (Matt. 8:12).
The horrors of hell
“And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth” (Matt. 13:42). “And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matt. 25:30). “Shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation: and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: and the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever; and they have no rest day nor night” (Rev. 14:10, 11).
Its torments are eternal
“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal” (Matt. 25:46). “Where their worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:44). “Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever” (Jude 13).
